30 August 2023
From the Principal

It’s nearly Spring time! It is always easy to note at our school as the wattles bloom and the hills colour to extremely green.
Around our school we are very fortunate to have a wonderful bush setting vista. Our school itself works hard to incorporate and keep our bushes and trees, both on our site and with our Council on adjoining land. This means that we have regular (at least once yearly) tree surveys completed by qualified professionals. From these surveys, there is usually a list of remediation works to be completed, removing limbs the most common works. Occasionally, we have to remove entire trees. We are cognisant of the beneficial impact that our trees have to our school, and we are equally and most importantly aware of ensuring a safe site and therefore removing what we need to. Over time, we are replanting our site and continuing to work with Council on revegetating our adjoining land. As we enter into our redevelopment, there will need to be some trees removed to complete the desired works. We will look to replant trees and large bushes nearby where we can. While we might be removing trees on an ongoing basis, the best time for us to plant new trees is in Autumn (so they can get a good water over winter).
I’m explaining all this because if you’re home with your children and they are telling you that they are unhappy with trees going, please know that we work hard to conserve all we can and we are actively replacing our trees over time on our site. We are spacing out our planting works to ensure that our trees continue to cycle through the site on a developmental basis. We don’t want a future school to be barren if everything is planted at the one time now.
Redevelopment Update
We are inching even closer to being finished with school-based consultations. We are finalising electrical and lighting layouts, have signed off on cabinetry and are near ready to seek input from suppliers on our preferences for furniture. We will have an 80% documentation review next week and will look to modify our plans after this with the end of September being for finalising plans before a tender in mid-October.
Here are some concept pictures from the architect showing interior design and teaching walls with storage.

Construction may start at the end of this year and will definitely be in full swing for all of 2024 and half of 2025.
We are also working with Council this week to continue Stage 2, which will encompass increased carparking and a gymnasium. Due to needing to work with Council, we do not have any timelines on this part of the project to date. We do look forward to progressing this stage over the next little while so we can realise the full redevelopment and have a gym!
Cambridge Capabilities – EAGLES
Our Cambridge Capabilities have a name! EAGLES is the title of the framework that will scaffold the individual Cambridge Capabilities.
E = Explore (creative thinking)
A = Analyse (analytical thinking)
G = Grit (growing grit in each student)
L = Love (emotional intelligence of self)
E = Engage (engage others for social intelligence)
S = Students, who this is all about
The acronym of EAGLES will be the foundation of the dispositional learning framework that we are building. The idea came from staff workshops at the end of last year. We took initial ideas and worked them with the SRC last year. Then at the start of this year, staff took the student feedback onboard and improved the initial 4 ideas. We recorded teachers explaining the concepts and showed these recordings to over 88 students (8 per class from grade 1 to 6, with a few extra). The EAGLES concept was by far the best received in student voting. The School Association also listened to the student voice and supported the students’ decision. We are now working with Inclusive Creatives to help compile visual and other resources to best explain and support our framework.
We will be working with Inclusive Creatives for at least the next 2 years. During this time, they wish to meet with students and parents to test out some ideas. Please keep an eye out in the Newsletter for an opportunity to have a say if you are keen.
I hope you are all well and that Spring on the horizon is brightening up your days! See you soon – Courtney.
