Community Notice Board
From the Principal
Welcome back to Term 2 and our first Newsletter for Term 2!
School is back and working amazingly well after the break. Walking through on the first day back, students were straight into reading groups and strong learning sequences – I was really impressed! A big thank you from me to Kristy Hay and our Leadership Team here for supporting the school while I was away.
Our Champions’ Athletics Carnival Day was also completed in the last week of Term 1 and we had several stand out performances – well done to all of our competitors.
Redevelopment Update
Our building works are progressing right on track. We have some great progress that can easily be seen. The concrete slab is being prepared for a pour later this week in Kinder and the external steel work and then roofing will not be too far away.
We are expecting, at this stage (remembering that there may be issues along the way) that we will receive the Kinder building back, with a new room in the first half of next term. We are then expecting to receive the new two-storey build at the start of November. It is really exciting for our school to soon get these new rooms!
We will keep you updated on the progress of the other parts of the redevelopment throughout the term.
We do appreciate everyone’s patience with a reduced carpark and difficulties in moving about the overall site and road crossing.
Parent Teacher Meetings
Parent Teacher Meetings will be held in week 4 of this term (starting Monday 20May). These are an integral part of our process to keep our families updated with continual reporting of your child’s learning progress. Staff take a good deal of time to prepare for these meetings and your active participation is highly valued. Likewise, if you’re in most days and feel that you have a good understanding of your child’s learning progress, feel free to check in with the class teacher and make sure that you are getting some new information and it is going to be worthwhile for you.
Grade 4 Camp
Finally, Grade 4 camp is next week! A HUGE thank you to the staff and parents who are heading away and supporting this event. Our camps cannot happen without the support of our families and staff. We highly value you all supporting our students to attend camp. They are one of the most transformational things we do as a school. Our camps build independence, collaboration, resilience, resourcefulness and most of all, are a lot of fun. We’re certainly wishing for a great time for everyone while they are away!
Looking forward to seeing you all about during Parent-Teacher Meetings in week 4.
See you soon - Courtney
Start of Term Reminders
We are a Nut and Egg Aware School
A reminder to families that we are a ‘nut and egg aware school’. There are several students within our school community that are highly allergic to nuts as well as students highly allergic to eggs.
Please do not send nuts, or foods containing nuts in your child’s lunch box.
Please do not send egg sandwiches, or hard-boiled eggs in your child’s lunch box.
SunSmart Program
Children are required to wear hats when outside at all times from September to April. Digger, Legionnaire or “Bucket” hats are the only hats to be worn at school and children without a SunSmart hat will be required to remain under the shaded area. Sunscreen will also be available to students and this will be located in classroom areas and at the office. Application of school sunscreen is your child’s responsibility so please ensure they can confidently apply this to themselves. Please also feel free to apply sunscreen at home in the morning prior to the school day. This is in line with the SunSmart Program sponsored by the Cancer Council. Hats are available for purchase from the School office for $10.
Validation and Other Permission Forms
We would like to thank those parents who have already returned the validation and other permission forms. If you have not yet returned your child’s forms please return them to the office as soon as possible, preferably in the original envelope.
Levies
Invoices were posted by the Department earlier in the year. Please pay promptly if you have not already done so. Contact the office if you wish to discuss payment options.
Contact Details
Has your phone number, email or address changed? Please inform the office of any changes as they occur.
Lost Property
Lost property is located at the MPR end of the main corridor. Please clearly name items of clothing, drink bottles and lunch boxes. If students are recycling second-hand clothes, please delete the old name. Any un-named items that are left at the end of each term will be disposed of.
Car Park Safety
Please drive slowly and with care in the carpark. Do not park in the bays allocated to buses, even for a short time.
Disabled Car Park
We have two disabled carparks near the school gate. We also have several families who either have disabled children or carers. These families need the car parks. We understand that the carpark can get full at times, but please, do not park in the signed spots unless you have a valid disabled parking sign.
School Gates
As we all know, manners are very important, but we ask that when opening the school gates, please only let out the child that is in your care.
Office Hours
8.10am – 3.30pm
Uniform Shop
Opening hours 8.10am – 3.30pm. Alternatively, uniform can be paid for via Qkr. Items can be collected from the office or handed to students. See side panel of newsletter for Qkr instructions.

Duty of Care
It is important to note, before 8.10am and after 2.40pm, your children need to be supervised by an adult (unless they are at after school care or waiting for a bus to go home). To be clear, please do not drop your child off before 8.10am and please collect them at 2.40pm, as our duty of care is not before 8.10am or after 2.40pm. We appreciate your support in keeping everyone safe with supervision.
Student Absences
Please notify the school office by 8.40am each day your child is absent from school. There is a link to an absentee form on the sidebar of the Schoolzine newsletter.

Make Each Day Count
Welcome back to Term 2, we hope you enjoyed your break!
By showing up to school every day, your child will have the best opportunity at a bright future. It gives them every chance to be around friends, learn new things, and find interests.
We have lots in store for this term, including 3 Assemblies, the Mothers’ Day Stall, Gr4 Camp, CPS Cross Country Carnival, Gr3/4 Landcare excursion and a Kinder excursion to the Sustainability Centre.
Good attendance habits can sometimes be hard to stick. Keep trying to create a solid routine, to set your child up for success for the rest of the year.
If you’re looking for tips on how to create better attendance habits, visit the Anything can happen website.
Please always talk to us if you’re having trouble getting your child to school. We’re here to help.
Share Your Thoughts on School Attendance
Help us better understand any barriers that may be in the way, and what supports are needed to help with getting to school.
The Department for Education, Children and Young People is doing statewide consultation on school attendance. 3P Advisory is independently running the consultation. Your answers are confidential, and you won’t be identified.
We want to hear from you. You can take part in an online survey, share or vote for suggestions, or join an online drop-in session via the 3P website. The survey takes approximately 10 minutes to complete.
You can also share your thoughts about what you like or don’t like about our Every school day matters campaign.
As a parent or carer, please have your say. Please encourage your child/ren, too.
Every piece of feedback counts. Thanks for helping shape future DECYP initiatives, school-based engagement strategies and public awareness campaigns.

Tool Skool Incursion
Gr2/3 A and Gr2/3 B were lucky enough to have a visit from Tool Skool at the end of Term 1. As part of our unit on how materials can be physically changed to make something, students were able to build and test out their own marble tracks.
We all had the best time Growing Grit and learning some new skills. Asher from Tool Skool guided us through the processes of sawing, sanding, hammering and gluing. Students in 2/3 B then spontaneously collaborated to make a “mega” marble run by layering them all together.
Assemblies in Term 2
