From the Principal
Welcome to winter!
The rain and colder weather have certainly arrived, and yet we know that our students need fresh air and outside time to regulate and enjoy a full day of learning. Please feel free to pack spare clothes (especially socks) for your child to change into if they are more adventurous at play breaks and are getting dirty. All of our rooms are well heated and they can warm up easily, but being uncomfortable in wet or dirty clothes can be a distraction to learning later in the day. On this note, if your child would like, they can bring Ugg boots or slippers to wear at school (inside only) if they are especially inclined to getting wet and cold feet. Many students may choose to leave a pair in their bag box for the colder months. This is also a nice way to make learning a cozy and enjoyable experience.
Our school and interschool cross country carnivals have been run and a big thank you to Mr Thomas and our school staff for supporting these events. Braving the elements for cross country will no doubt be a memory for many parents from your schooling days, it is great to see us all supporting our students to show courage and persistence to complete the events. At our recent inter-school division A carnival, our Grade 6 Boys (4th), Grade 5 Girls (2nd) and Grade 4 Boys (2nd) did especially well – well done to everyone who attended and competed in the trying conditions.
Cambridge Capabilities – Self-Evaluating
This week and next, our students are exploring Self-Evaluating. For us, Self-Evaluating is defined as: Knowing yourself as a learner. In our EAGLEs Framework, Self-Evaluating is aligned with Learn Character.
Self-Evaluating is thinking about who you are and what you bring to the party as a learner! Knowing your strengths and weaknesses when you are learning and how to dial up and down what is most needed to be successful in any given moment. Self-Evaluating is thinking about who you are in the learning and how you can BE different to get better learning outcomes, it's about having strong emotional intelligence. Self-Evaluating is different than reflecting in that it is about you as a learner and not the learning (work) you are doing. Self-Evaluating really is a higher-order tool and process. Something difficult to master, and yet really important for great success.
Cambridge Capabilities Icon Comp
Starting last week, our students have begun to explore what icons or symbols each of the first 11 Cambridge Capabilities might look like. We will be running a whole school competition over the remainder of this term for students to win the chance to have their drawing formalised by graphic designers and forever embedded as the icon for one of our Cambridge Capabilities! If your child would like to practise at home, please let them have a go! We have a lot of icon templates at the office for students to practise on. We will share the winners at the end of this term and share the final icons early next term as they come back to us from the graphic designers.
In Term 3, we will run a competition for the remaining Capabilities to also have an icon. We envisage wrapping up 3 years of unpacking and drawing out work this year. More to come next term about this.
Redevelopment Update
The new Kindergarten now has a roof on! With it, the internal fit out is now progressing irrespective of the weather. Insulation and plastering have started, with other trades to follow: initial painting, plumbing and electrical and data works.
The new build now has steel work installed and the footings and slab prep for the external lower-level as well as form work for the second storey slab is about to begin. We have seen a lot of cranes on site over the past 2 weeks and we will have a return of the concrete trucks soon. The retaining walls and waterproofing has progressed well on this section and external brick work will begin soon.
We are still expecting to be into the new kinder building in mid-August and the new building in late November. Very exciting!
Student Free Day on Friday – Moderation Day
A reminder that students are not to attend school on Friday. Friday is a statewide moderation day for our schools to get together and moderate learning and assessment outcomes. We will be working with South Hobart, Lindisfarne North and Sandy Bay Infant School to moderate maths tasks.
We very much understand the disruption this can cause to family life, and we very much appreciate the time and importance of Moderation Day to strengthening our curriculum planning and assessment processes. Thank you for your help.
See you soon – Courtney.
School Association News
The next School Association general meeting will be held on Wednesday 26 June from 5.30pm – 7.00pm.

Parent Maths Workshop
On Thursday 20 June from 6.00pm – 7.30pm Maths consultant, Rob Vingerhoets, will run a workshop for parents to understand more about Maths and how we are teaching it at our school. It would be a useful evening for you as parents to help you to help your kids with Maths. There will be lots of ideas, tips and activities.
Rob will be working here with the staff all week, both after school and in classrooms.

Share your Thoughts on School Attendance
Help us better understand any barriers that may be in the way, and what supports are needed to help with getting to school.
The Department for Education, Children and Young People is doing statewide consultation on school attendance. 3P Advisory is independently running the consultation. Your answers are confidential, and you won’t be identified.
We want to hear from you. You can take part in an online survey, share or vote for suggestions, or join an online drop-in session via the 3P website. The survey takes approximately 10 minutes to complete.
You can also share your thoughts about what you like or don’t like about our Every school day matters campaign.
As a parent or carer, please have your say. Please encourage your child/ren, too.
Every piece of feedback counts. Thanks for helping shape future DECYP initiatives, school-based engagement strategies and public awareness campaigns.
Interschool Cross Country
Well done to all the students who competed at yesterday's Division A Interschool Cross Country at Bayview Secondary College and thank you to parents and teachers who attended.
All Schools Primary Cross Country – Gr3-6
The All Schools Primary Cross Country will be held on June 18 at Symmons Plains. Anyone in Gr3-6 can compete. The link to register is below. Parents will be required to transport and supervise their children.
The Young Archies Awards 2024
Based on the famous Archibald Prize, the Young Archies Awards is an annual portrait competition open to all students in Department of Education schools and colleges.
Awards are presented in year categories for the best portrait of a person created by a student during the 12 months before the closing date.
All Cambridge Primary Students have had their portraits exhibited in the school for the past week or two. This year’s exhibition shows outstanding work across all grades. Unfortunately, only four portraits from each age category can be selected. Our panel of judges have chosen this year’s finalists.

Support your Child’s Online Learning at Home
Digital skills are critical to every child’s success, but supporting online learning can be overwhelming.
The Digital Skills for Families team are delivering a program to help Tasmanian families support online learning at home. Spending time online at home gives children an opportunity to practise what they are learning at school. Positive home environments help children develop the skills and independence they need to succeed in a digital future.
Learn about communicating online with schools, digital education at school and how to support online learning at home.
Digital Skills for Families is offering free:
