From the Principal
The last of Spring is with us and we have access to the oval again! As much as the bottom oval was fun for a change, having the big oval back is certainly preferred and easier to manage for us. Thank you to the Clarence City Council for the great work they put in – we must have access to one of the best surfaces in the state as a school oval.
External School Review Report
We are really pleased to share with you all the report from our External School Review that was completed last term.
The findings and recommendations (all schools receive recommendations) are evident of the strong foundations we’ve built and where we are planning to go next.
The panel noted, on several occasions, that the findings were very strong and that we should all take some time to celebrate our efforts and achievements over the past 4-6 years. Well done to us!
Uniform Policy
There has been no constructive feedback for inclusion into our Policy review from the last Newsletter. As such, the policy will be kept as is, with a short review next year to potentially add or clarify any items. We will share with our families when we have sized stock at school to come and assess what sizing you may need. We are excited to see a new uniform here shortly!
Redevelopment Update
Fingers crossed, in the next Newsletter we will be able to give a definitive date for moving into the new building! This date will hopefully be only a couple of weeks away. We have already had some of the new furniture arrive (currently in boxes in the Admin Foyer), and there is more on the way. This new building marks an amazing point in the journey of our 160-year-old school. This building is shaping up to be a fantastic addition to our already beautiful little school. When we do move in, the outside landscaping will not be completed. This work will continue for a few weeks after.
The landscapers will be busy, both finishing off the new build landscaping, and installing the Kindergarten fort and associated ground cover.
The works outside the canteen are going ahead with framing now up! This area is really taking shape and it won’t be long until the builders tie the new roof into the old roof. The goal is for the canteen extension to be framed on the outside, with an internal demolition, extension and tie in to be completed as fast as possible during January, to minimise any possible canteen loss. We really appreciate and value the effort VOS have put in for us to make this work. The priority for the remainder of this year, is to progress the western end of the main block redevelopment; the canteen, the outside seating and the veranda and roofing outside Rooms 8 & 9 (the 3-4 classrooms).
There is a lot of block work and plumbing currently happening to make the northern veranda of the entire main building come to life and this has been exciting to watch happen so quickly. A big thank you to all of our 2-3, 4-5 and 3-4A students, teachers and families for dialling up your concentrating skills during this time.
Thanks Ryan Thomas!
Ryan Thomas, our PE teacher for the last nearly two years has decided to change roles and will leave our school at the completion of this year. I’d like to take the time to thank Ryan for his contributions to our school over his time with us.
To follow after Jake Woodberry was a significant challenge for any person, and Ryan’s keen organisation, dedication and willingness to learn have made the change for us as seamless as possible. Ryan has been thorough and diligent in his approach and has constantly taken on new challenges and trialled new ideas. For example, trying to use Seesaw to report to hundreds of families!
We really appreciate the energy and effort Ryan has both brought to the role and put in during his time at Cambridge Primary School. We wish him all the best as he firms up what his role will be in our Department in 2025 and beyond.
Ryan is the only staff member leaving at the end of the year at this point in time.
We will share more about staffing over the next two Newsletters.
See you all soon – Courtney

Remembrance Day Service
On Monday 11 November students and staff remembered the service and sacrifice of all Australians who have served in wars, conflicts and peace operations. Thank you to our students who were thoughtful and respectful and thanks to the Gr 6 students who spoke so movingly at the service.

Combined Primary Schools Annual Concert

The concert performance will start at 7.00pm sharp, and students are requested to be at the venue by 6.30pm. Student performers do not require a ticket.
Please note, due to copyright and privacy, recording and photography are not permitted during the performance.
Special Kinder Morning Tea
In week 4, the Kinders hosted a special thank-you morning tea. They invited the wonderful builders and our school admin staff who created the wonderful Kinder extension, being so courteous to the children and staff and ensuring minimal disruptions during the project.
The Kinders cooked all the delicious treats themselves, and we all sat together to enjoy the meal. We also took this opportunity to thank our amazing Grade 6 and Grade 3 helpers, who serve food to the Kinders every day. We truly appreciate all they do to keep our lunch program running smoothly.
Thank you, the Kinders
Have Your Say on Foundational Supports
Governments are working together to design and deliver additional disability supports in the community.
These additional supports are called Foundational Supports and are separate to those delivered through the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) or mainstream services.
The Department of Social Services want feedback and ideas on how to design Foundational Supports for families and children aged under 9 in their care where there is a developmental concern, delay and/or disability.
Share your thoughts by:
- completing the online questionnaire or providing a submission
- adding a comment to the Ideas Wall
- joining the Tasmanian online workshop on Tuesday 19 November 7-9pm.

Supporting Online Learning at Home
To help families learn online at home, every family with children in kindergarten to year 10 are receiving a copy of Supporting online learning: a guide for families.
This guide provides families with information and advice about:
- school communication apps, such as Canvas Parent
- managing online privacy
- social media readiness
- effective online searching, and
- spending time online as a family.
Families are the most important influence and support for children and young people. Learning online at home builds life skills to succeed in today’s digital world.
Guides will be sent home soon.
For more digital skills and support, please email digitalskillsforfamilies@libraries.tas.gov.au
School Crossing Guards
Our school is fortunate to have a dedicated crossing guard who plays an important role in our community and who works hard every day to keep students and families safe.
To help protect everyone, we’re sharing some Dos and Don’t around our school crossing area:
Do | Don’t |
Always following the crossing guard’s instructions | Ignore a crossing guard’s instructions |
Slow down, stay alert and be ready to stop safely when asked | Block visibility near the crossing zone by parking too close |
Drive in a safe manner whenever you’re travelling through a school zone |
Thank you for helping to keep our school community safe.
Let’s all do our part by respecting our crossing guard and the road rules. Together, we can create a safer journey to and from school!
Southern Regional Primary School Basketball Tournament
Over the weekend of 9/10 November, the Grade 3/4 Cambridge Primary basketball team played in the Division 2 Southern Regional Primary School Tournament. We played four games in total. We won the first two games, and the third was a draw. In the grand final, we faced Holy Rosary in a tough match. In the end, we won the championship by just one point!
Highlights included:
- Charlotte’s somersault in the final
- Lou Lou’s foul shots
- Maddi scoring a swish
- Holly dribbling up the court
- Lily grabbing rebounds
- Mabel’s epic passes
- Flossy’s solid defense
- Summer’s ball protection
- Maggie’s excellent shooting
A big thank you to Jack, Connor, and Tina for coaching, Gus for umpiring, and Emma for team managing and organising everything. Thanks to the parents for their support and for getting us there, and to the Brumbys for hosting our training sessions. We can’t wait for next year.
